US food tech start-up, Ripe Technology, today announced its collaboration with global enterprise blockchain software firm, R3 and Microsoft. Ripe Technology (ripe.io) will be using R3’s Corda Enterprises to create a food traceability blockchain on Microsoft Azure.
Ripe Technology was established to create transparency in the food and agriculture industry using blockchain technology. R3’s Corda will enable data privacy and scalability that Ripe Technology’s blockchain requires as a node in Corda will only store the data to which it’s allowed access.
CEO of ripe.io, Raja Ramachandran, who previously worked as a Managing Director at R3, said,
“This collaboration is an important and exciting milestone for our company. I want to express, on behalf our entire team, how energizing it is to have the support, encouragement and endorsement of R3 and Microsoft to continue our work of empowering people to make confident choices about the food they eat, grow and sell.”
This is the first time Corda Enterprise’s technology is being applied in the food and agriculture sector. CEO and founder of R3, David E. Rutter, said,
“This is another important vote of confidence in R3’s technology to deliver results and build a more efficient food supply chain. ripe.io has been on the forefront of engaging all of the actors in the supply chain to digitize activity from farm to fork.”
Microsoft will join forces with R3 and Ripe Technology, with these companies incorporating Microsoft’s advanced AI platform and tools, cut out to maintain the needs of the food and agriculture industry. The development of supply chain solutions and hosting will be supported by Microsoft Azure’s cloud AI tools.
