- Drake and Canopy Growth Corporation are partnering up for a fully-licensed Toronto-based weed operation.
- It’s an odd partnership. There’s been some speculation that Drake doesn’t like to smoke marijuana – or even know how.
- Maybe he’s trying to impress his new girlfriend, Kylie Jenner. People Magazine reported the two are dating the day before Drake announced his new venture. Kylie could certainly out-smoke Drake.
Drake is getting into the legal weed business in Canada. The quadruple platinum-selling rapper just signed a deal with Canopy Growth Corporation (NYSE:CGC) to grow and distribute marijuana in his old Toronto stomping grounds.
Both parties announced the partnership Thursday, a week before Canopy is expected to release its third-quarter earnings report with better-than-projected numbers.
Drake isn’t the first A-list celebrity to lend star power to Canopy’s massive cannabis growth and distribution infrastructure. CGC has also tapped odd couple Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart for marketing muscle.
Does Drake Even Know How to Smoke Weed?

But the partnership between Drake and Canopy is an odd one. There’s a lot of doubt in the rap community that the Lil Wayne-protege even knows how to smoke weed.
Exhibit A – Lyrics
Unlike most of his rapper peers, Drake hardly raps about getting faded in any of his lyrics. Compare Drake to Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Wiz Khalifa in terms of weed lyrics, and he doesn’t seem like the most likely cannabis spokesperson.
Who you think taught you to smoke trees?
I wake up early in the morning and it feels so good
Smoking on some sh*t that you wish you could
I’m in my weed farm (yeah)
I’m rolling up another joint as soon as the weeds gone
Exhibit B – Interviews
Drake frequently tells interviewers he only smokes in moderation.
