If you're just getting started in the crypto space, you may have seen many people discussing how they are HODL'ing.

The viral mispelling of the word "hold", got started all by accident. Over at the bitcointalk.org forums, a user called “GameKyuubi” created a thread when he had one too many drinks. The thread is titled “I AM HODLING”, and focused around his frustration with day trading.

“WHY AM I HOLDING? I'LL TELL YOU WHY.  It's because I'm a bad trader and I KNOW I'M A BAD TRADER.  Yeah you good traders can spot the highs and the lows pit pat piffy wing wong wang just like that and make a millino bucks sure no problem bro.”

Those who don't want to chance any losses with trading will often "HODL" or hold, with the hope that their investment will increase over time.

The HODL has also mutated to become an acronym for some by meaning "hold onto dear life".
